Getting Started with Southington Library eBooks

OVERDRIVE for the iPad

  1. Go to the Apple store to download the Overdrive app. (If using the library Wi-Fi, you must first use Safari to go to the Spot On web page. You must agree to the terms for Internet access).
  2. Use the Overdrive app to search for available eBooks. (If you log in before you search, you can see Southington’s Advantage collection.)
  3. You can place holds or add available books to your cart.
  4. When you check out your selection(s), you will be directed to Adobe to create your Adobe digital ID.
  5. You will be prompted to select your library. You MUST have a valid Southington library card to borrow eBooks.
  6. You will be prompted to download your eBook(s).
  7. After downloading is complete, you read the book using the Overdrive app.

OVERDRIVE for the Kindle

For the Kindle Fire:

  1. Open the browser and go to Web. (If using the library Wi-Fi, you must first go to the Spot On page.  You must agree to the terms for Internet access).
  2. Go to the Southington Library website. Scroll down the page and click on the “download audiobooks, eBooks and video” link or click here.
  3. You will be directed to the Overdrive catalog. (If you log in before you search, you can see Southington’s Advantage collection.)
  4. You may place holds or add available books to your cart.
  5. Make sure to select the Kindle version. Proceed to checkout. You will be directed to Amazon. Log in to Amazon with your established user name and password.
  6. Select library copy and download.
  7. You can now read the book on your Kindle Fire.

For the Kindle Touch and other Kindles:

  1. Use your home computer (or a library public computer) to go to the Southington Library website. Scroll down the page and click on the “download audiobooks, eBooks and video” link.
  2. You will be directed to the Overdrive catalog. (If you log in before you search, you can see Southington’s Advantage collection.)
  3. You may place holds or add available books to your cart.
  4. Make sure to select the Kindle version. Proceed to checkout. You will be directed to Amazon. Log in to Amazon with your established user name and password.
  5. Select library copy and download.
  6. Make sure you have a valid Wi-Fi connection. Sync your Kindle to your Amazon account.  (If using the library Wi-Fi, go to “Experimental” to open the browser. You will be taken to the Spot On page. You must agree to the terms for Internet access).
  7. Upon syncing, you can read the book on your Kindle device.
