Getting Started with Southington Library eBooks
OVERDRIVE for the iPad
- Go to the Apple store to download the Overdrive app. (If using the library Wi-Fi, you must first use Safari to go to the Spot On web page. You must agree to the terms for Internet access).
- Use the Overdrive app to search for available eBooks. (If you log in before you search, you can see Southington’s Advantage collection.)
- You can place holds or add available books to your cart.
- When you check out your selection(s), you will be directed to Adobe to create your Adobe digital ID.
- You will be prompted to select your library. You MUST have a valid Southington library card to borrow eBooks.
- You will be prompted to download your eBook(s).
- After downloading is complete, you read the book using the Overdrive app.
OVERDRIVE for the Kindle
For the Kindle Fire:
- Open the browser and go to Web. (If using the library Wi-Fi, you must first go to the Spot On page. You must agree to the terms for Internet access).
- Go to the Southington Library website. Scroll down the page and click on the “download audiobooks, eBooks and video” link or click here.
- You will be directed to the Overdrive catalog. (If you log in before you search, you can see Southington’s Advantage collection.)
- You may place holds or add available books to your cart.
- Make sure to select the Kindle version. Proceed to checkout. You will be directed to Amazon. Log in to Amazon with your established user name and password.
- Select library copy and download.
- You can now read the book on your Kindle Fire.
For the Kindle Touch and other Kindles:
- Use your home computer (or a library public computer) to go to the Southington Library website. Scroll down the page and click on the “download audiobooks, eBooks and video” link.
- You will be directed to the Overdrive catalog. (If you log in before you search, you can see Southington’s Advantage collection.)
- You may place holds or add available books to your cart.
- Make sure to select the Kindle version. Proceed to checkout. You will be directed to Amazon. Log in to Amazon with your established user name and password.
- Select library copy and download.
- Make sure you have a valid Wi-Fi connection. Sync your Kindle to your Amazon account. (If using the library Wi-Fi, go to “Experimental” to open the browser. You will be taken to the Spot On page. You must agree to the terms for Internet access).
- Upon syncing, you can read the book on your Kindle device.
